Shou-Sugi-Ban will remain beautiful for years if it is properly maintained. The types with charcoal layer are basically maintenance free. The surface of the brushed types may discolour over time due to excessive exposure to direct sunlight. This can be touched up with the prescribed products. The deeply burnt types of Shou-Sugi-Ban require different maintenance than the burnt, brushed types.
